Deputy Roy Fortson was shot and killed when he attempted to stop the robbery of a bar. Deputy Fortson was inside the bar when the suspect entered and announced a hold-up. When Deputy Fortson attempted to intervene, the suspect shot and killed him.

The suspect was later apprehended and sentenced to life in prison. In an odd twist, the suspect turned out to be the cousin of Deputy Fortson.

Deputy Fortson was survived by his wife and two children.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
