Officer Elmer Forsman was killed in a motorcycle accident while on duty.
While responding to an emergency, Officer Forsman was traveling north on Blackstone Avenue in Fresno, California, when his motorcycle hit a car entering from a parked position that crossed illegally from the opposite side of the street.
Based on the condition of the tires, investigators believe Officer Forsman applied the rear brake only and after traveling nearly 50 feet threw the motorcycle on its side to try to avoid the collision before it skidded into the car, which traveled more than 50 feet after impact. The officer's injuries included fractures to the skull and he died without regaining conciousness.
Officer Forsman had served with the agency for four years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, mother, brother, grandmothers, and uncle.
