Corrections Officer Mark Avery was beaten to death when he, and another officer, was attacked at the Lansing Correctional Facility's recreation hall. The two officers were beaten with barbell plates and a stocking cap filled with pool balls.
Officer Avery was taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center where he died of his injuries.
