Herman A. Jones, Sr.

Police Officer Jones was shot and killed during a robbery attempting as he waited for carryout food at a restaurant in the 1500 block of North Gay Street.

Three teenagers entered the restaurant and grabbed Officer Jones, who was off-duty. One of the teenagers drew a .38 caliber handgun and shot Officer Jones twice. Officer Jones was able to return fire, striking two of the suspects. All three suspects were later arrested.

The 17-year-old shooter was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life. The other two, both 16, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Officer Jones had served with the Baltimore City Police Department for 24 years. He is survived by his wife and two children.
