Officer Fish was accidentally struck by a round fired by another officer during a shootout with a suspect. He and several officers had responded to a robbery-in-progress at a local bar. When they arrived the suspect opened fire. The officers returned fire. One of the rounds that struck the suspect travelled through the man's body and struck Officer Fish in the chest. Officer Fish was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to the wound.
Officer Fish had been with the agency for eight years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 42nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. You will always be remembered and revered.
