Sergeant Fischer died from injuries sustained the previous day when he was struck by a vehicle on Lake Shore Driver, in Lincoln Park, while writing an accident report while investigating an earlier accident. He was transported to Columbus Memorial Hospital where he died the following day.

The Chicago Park District Police was disbanded in 1957. Remaining officers were transferred to the Chicago Police Department through an intergovernmental agreement.
