Police Officer Andrew W. Farthing

Montclair Police Department, California

End of Watch Sunday, June 18, 1961

Andrew W. Farthing

Officer Farthing was beaten to death with his own nightstick by an 18 year old youth when he and three other officers went to the suspects home to break up a teen-age party neighbors were complaining about.

On November 2, 1961, the suspect was acquitted after a jury ruled that he was justified in beating the officer to death because he entered his home without a search warrant.

Rest In Peace Officer Farthing. I was an officer in a city next door to Montclair 20 years after your senseless death. I was close friends with Montclair Officers at the time and heard about your death. I wish I could have been there at that time to back you up. We need to protect each other as police officers.

It's been 56 years and you are still not forgotten.
