I would like to pay a personal tribute to a man whos name I may have been christened with, but whos shoes can never be filled. My grandfather, Cpl Richard C. Edstrom, perished protecting the citizens of Durango, Co from desperate souls with nothing to lose. He was a brave, caring, selfless man who would be sorely missed by a family who desperately needed him to come home that night. Being his grandson and living the effects of that night without ever having met him has been a piece missing from my life since I can remember. Today the La Plata county law enforcement community gave tribute to this wonderful man and six others who gave their all. Thank you for that! I know it meant the world to my father. I truly appreciate the officers that are risking their lives everyday, and the ones who have come to an end of watch. It takes a special soul to be that person. May god bless you all and grant you the peace you so richly deserve.
