Officer Edward Duddles was fatally shot by burglars at 297 Division Street when responding to the sound of screams. He discovered two men attacking a woman. Upon being discovered, one of the attackers was able to pull out a gun and shoot Officer Duddles.

Both offenders were sentenced to Joliet Penitentiary for life.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 117th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect, not even 124 years.
