Patrolman Dudash was killed in a motorcycle accident while responding to an automobile accident on Route 27 during a period of heavy fog. His motorcycle struck a disabled vehicle that was stopped in the roadway.

At the time of his death, Edison Township was named Raritan Township. The town was renamed to Edison in 1954. He was the third officer hired when the police department was formed in 1923.

Dudash Park is named in honor of Patrolman Dudash.

To our Great-Grandfather Patrolman Michael Dudash:

Though it was long ago when you made the ultimate sacrifice; your memory is with your family this day and always. We take great pride in knowing that you emblemized all that is good in this world and that you share a special place in heaven with other fallen heroes. We endeavor to live by your example; with respect, honor and dignity and to instill these virtues in our children.

May the Lord always be watching over you just as you have been so devotedly watching over us.
