Officer John Donovan was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a robbery suspect. The suspect attempted to flee but was shot and wounded by other officers and was taken into custody.

The man was sentenced to death and executed on September 29, 1904.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 109th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect. Your memory will always be remembered and revered.
