Policeman Dolphin was killed when he and his horse were thrown under the wheels of a trolley on Midvale Avenue at 31st Street. The horse became frightened, reared and plunged in front of the fast-moving trolley. It also was killed.

Policeman Dolphin was a Spanish-American war veteran and served with the Philadelphia Police Department for four and a half years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 98th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
