Sergeant Distrola was killed when he fell from an overpass as he attempted to avoid being struck by another car. He was investigating an accident on the Route 219 bypass when another vehicle lost control on ice and started to slide towards him. He fell over the edge overpass as he attempted to get out of the way.

Sergeant Distrola had served with the agency for 12 years. He was survived by his wife and three children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 22nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
