Officer Osvaldo Canalejo was killed after his cruiser was broadsided while he was responding to an assistance call.
The driver of the car that hit Officer Canalejo was was charged with running a red light and reckless driving. He plead guilty and was fined him $575, had his license revoked for 1 year, and was sentenced to traffic school. It was determined that he was not intoxicated and speed was not a factor.
Officer Canalejo had served with the agency for five years and was survived by his parents.
