Earl F. DeMarse

Correctional Officer Earl DeMarse was stabbed to death by an inmate at the Marquette Branch Prison.

The stabbing took place only 15 minutes into his shift at 6:15 a.m. The prisoner who stabbed him was sentenced to life in prison and transferred to a different facility, where he later stabbed and wounded another officer.

Officer DeMarse was a United States Army Air Forces WWII veteran and had served with the Michigan Department of Corrections for 26 years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, son, two brothers, and a granddaughter.

The Earl F. DeMarse Training Academy was named in his memory.

On today, the 50th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
