I happened across a female relative of yours at a blood drive - when I saw the last name Groner on her name tag, I asked if she knew Mark Groner. I can't remember now what relation she said you were to her, but she told me you had become a Maryland State Trooper since I had last seen you and, in the same breath, told me you were killed in the line of duty. I was proud of you and sorry for the loss of you all in one moment.

I remember you as the friendly, adorable, round-faced Santa Claus to my Mrs. Clause in the 6th grade Christmas play. When we moved on to 7th grade, we went to different schools and I never met you again. I wish I had known you better and longer and I still think about you. Whenever I encounter a police officer, firefighter or first responder, I remember you and your service and say a prayer for the safety of that person.

God bless you, your family, your loved ones and your fellow troopers. Rest in peace Mark.
