Sergeant Richard Davenport was alerted to an attempted auto theft and responded immediately. Sergeant Davenport confronted the five offenders and attempted to place them under arrest. One of the offenders resisted, drew a revolver and fired. Sergeant Davenport was shot and killed.

I didn't know you personally, but I see that today is the anniversary of your passing. You died being a symbol of the law, with courage and a sense of devotion to doing your duty. I'm just John Q.
