Patrolman Cribb was shot and killed when he and another officer interrupted an armed robbery in a supermarket while off duty. As the officers approached the cashier they noticed three men robbing the store. As they attempted to make the arrests the suspects opened fire, fatally wounding Patrolman Cribb. The three suspects escaped and remain at large.

Patrolman Cribb was survived by his wife.
