Corporal Cook was shot and killed in a shootout with an armed robbery suspect. Officers had chased the suspects 40 blocks through San Francisco. Once the vehicle was finally stopped a shootout ensued and Corporal Cook and one of the suspects were fatally wounded. The suspect's accomplices were also arrested and charged with armed robbery and murder. Two were sentenced to life in prison and one was sentenced to seven years probation.
