Officer Randy Schipani was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on University Drive, at the I-75 interchange, during morning rush hour.

The side windows and rear window of the vehicle were tinted and prevented Officer Schipani or his partner from seeing inside of it. As a result, Officer Schipani had to look through the windshield of the vehicle. As he did the juvenile driver fired a shot at him, fatally wounding him. Officer Schipani's partner returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

Officer Schipani had served with the Atlanta Police Department for five years. He is survived by his wife.

Hi Randy,

It's been 31 years since your passing. I didn't know you well; however, we spoke briefly in passing more than once and we worked a few extra jobs together. I know you were a good dude and an exceptional police officer. Every-time I drive by University Ave; I think of you. Rest in Peace. You will always be on patrol where ever there are police officers.
