Officer Randy Schipani was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on University Drive, at the I-75 interchange, during morning rush hour.

The side windows and rear window of the vehicle were tinted and prevented Officer Schipani or his partner from seeing inside of it. As a result, Officer Schipani had to look through the windshield of the vehicle. As he did the juvenile driver fired a shot at him, fatally wounding him. Officer Schipani's partner returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

Officer Schipani had served with the Atlanta Police Department for five years. He is survived by his wife.

Its been 24 years today. I cant believe time has past so fast. I still hear your voice yelling at the prisoner that stole Sgt. Landress purse in the precinct...you had us all cracking up. Thank you for the memories. With only a few months on, your death opened my eyes to the violent world we live in and kept my head on a swivel the last 24 years. Thank you for your service. RIP Warrior!
