Policeman Charles Conaway was killed when he was crushed between two trolley cars of the Union Traction Company while trying to save the life of a woman at Market Street and Eleventh Street.

He and several other officers had been assigned to the area to keep order as crowds formed to hear the results of election day.

Policeman Conaway was assigned to the Sixth District.
