Officer Colson was shot and killed when he attempted to quell a disturbance being caused by several boys near an elderly man's home. The boys were there teasing the home owner. As Officer Colson attempted to take a weapon away from the man he and another man were shot and killed with a second gun that he had not seen.

The suspect was arrested and charged with murder.

Officer Colson, on this 90th anniversary of your senseless murder, I wish to thank you for your service. You probably would have been well within your rights to have shot the man who took your life, but you attempted to disarm him without anyone getting hurt. It shows true good character. I can only hope your murderer faced true justice, if not in this world, then in the next. He's become a footnote in history, you have become revered in history.
