Deputy Dial was killed when his patrol car was struck by a pickup truck being driven by a drunk driver. The driver was convicted of felony driving under the influence and sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Deputy Dial had served with the Richland County Sheriff's Department for almost 3 years. He was survived by his wife.

Hey buddy I'm sorry if I'm a little bit late in leaving this reflection but believe me when I say this I have never forgotten you in all of the 18 years since you left this world. You were a good friend and an excellent deputy that was taken away from us way too early in life. 1992 was a lousy year for our department I lost 2 good friends in the line of duty as I said before you both are on my mind and will forever be in my heart. RIP my brother.
