Trooper Cobb was shot and killed by her boyfriend, who was also a state trooper. The suspect murdered her while she was on duty over a $150,000 insurance policy. The suspect was apprehended and sentenced to death, but later had his sentenced changed to life with the possibility of parole after a second trial.

Trooper Cobb had been with the Alabama Department of Public Safety for six years and is survived by her parents.
