Trooper Elizabeth Cobb was shot and killed by her boyfriend, who was also a state trooper. The suspect murdered her while she was on duty over a $150,000 insurance policy. The suspect was apprehended and sentenced to death, but later had his sentence changed to life with the possibility of parole after a second trial.

Trooper Cobb had been employed with the Alabama Department of Public Safety for six years and is survived by her parents.

TROOPER COBB YOU ARE A TRUE INSPIRATION TO ALL THOSE THAT FOLLOWED YOU IN YOUR IN YOUR CHOSEN PROFESSION. AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS WORKING THE HIGHWAYS AND STREETS NOT A SCRATCH. BUT IT TOOK A COWARD TO END YOUR LIFE THAT THE STREETS COULDN'T DO. WHAT A HERO YOU ARE, YOU MADE THE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS A SAFER PLACE FOR ALL OF US TO TRAVEL. YOU SERVED WITH CARE AND HONOR AND HEROES WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO YOUR FAMILY WHO I AM SURE ARE PROUD OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. YOU ARE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS FOR YOUR ULTIMATE SACRIFICE.
