Deputy Yamamoto died two days after being shot when he responded to a man with a gun call. The suspect was shot and killed by New York State Police officers a few days after the incident.

Deputy Yamamoto had served with the agency for 3 years. He was survived by his parents.

I met you long ago at MLK. You didn't know me, but I took your hand and tried to provide hope. My wishes had failed you and I'm sorry. I gave you a prayer card, St Michael if you recall. It was a prayer for policemen. I kept it in my vest. I gave it to you with hopes of comfort. None the less I'm sorry for your loss. He was a good man, a Firestone Deputy, and that is family.
