Patrolman Casey suffered a fatal heart attack while attempting to break up a fight.

Patrolman Casey was on a post near the St. Nicholas arena at Columbus circle following the St. Patrick's Day Parade when a fight broke out inside the arena. When Patrolman Casey and other patrolmen when inside to break up the fight, Patrolman Casey suffered a heart attack and died.

Patrolman Casey had served with the New York City Police Department for 15 years. He was survived by his wife and four children. He was assigned to the 20th Precinct.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 64th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
