Sergeant Louis Cannaliato was shot and killed when he responded to a disturbance call in Westwego, Louisiana with another unit. When the two units arrived the shooter opened fire with a fully loaded 12 gauge. Sergeant Cannaliato was struck in the head as he put his unit vehicle into park.
The suspect was shot and killed by other responding officers before they rushed Sergeant Cannaliato and another officer to the hospital.
