Office Webb Campbell and his partner responded in plain clothes to a report of a prowler at North West 24th and Walker.

While they were searching the area, uniformed officers arrived on the scene. They were unaware that plain clothes officers were searching the area, and when Officer Campbell rounded the corner of a house, he was shot and killed by mistake.
