Detective Sergeant Cameron was shot and killed while attempting to arrest two robbery suspects on West 8th Street. One suspect was captured minutes later. The other suspect was killed in a shoot out with police at his home in Morrow.

Detective Cameron won the Carnegie Hero Award for his work in saving several women from a fire which destroyed a building in downtown Cincinnati in 1908. He had been with the agency for 15 years.
