Ernest Calvillo

Deputy Ernest Calvillo was shot and killed while attempting to break up a fight at a local bar.

He and another deputy were working an off-duty security detail at a local bar when a patron informed the officers that there was a fight and one of the men was in the parking lot with a gun. The officers located the subject holding a rifle and told him to leave. The subject left the scene and then returned and began speaking with the officers again. The subject's brother then pulled up and fired at the deputies, striking Deputy Calvillo. The other deputy returned fire, killing the subject who fired the weapon.

Deputy Calvillo was a United States Air Force Vietnam War veteran and had served with the Pima County Sheriff's Department for just under 10.5 years. He was survived by his wife, two daughters,

On today, the 40th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
