Officer Charles Busby was killed when his police motorcycle was struck by a drunk driver on Marietta Boulevard, NW. The impact threw Officer Busby 459 feet.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of murder, speeding, and drunk driving. They were convicted but only served seven years of the sentence.

Officer Busby had served with the agency for nearly three years. He was survived by his wife and four children.

Hi Daddy, I think of you so very often. I have told my two childern about you and my three grandchildern. I have always tried to teach them to respect Policemen for the very hard and dangerious job that they do everyday to keep us safe. And in doing their jobs that sometimes God calls some of them to heaven, and that is where their Granddaddy is. I pray that I will see you again when God calls me to Heaven and that some day you will meet my childern and grandchildern. I love you and I have never forgotten how much you loved me and my brothers. Even Ray, who was born two weeks after you were called to Heaven, and you never got to hold. I love you Daddy.......Your one and only Daughter.
