Inspector Burns suffered a fatal heart attack following a search in a Calexico, California, river bottom. He was searching heavy undergrowth for illegal aliens when he began to suffer chest pains. He suffered a fatal heart attack two hours later.
Inspector Burns had been with the agency for 13 years.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
