Sheriff Bulman was shot and killed while attempting to serve an insanity warrant on a man in Postville, Iowa. As Sheriff Bulman and other deputies entered the room the man opened fire with a shotgun, killing the sheriff. Other deputies returned fire and killed the suspect. He was survived by his wife, son, and two daughters.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 66th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, not even 66 years.
