Patrolman Buckley and his partner pursued the suspect through Jackson at speeds reaching 100-mph. The suspect suddenly stopped and as the patrolmen exited their car the man opened fire with a .20 gauge shotgun. The blast struck Patrolman Buckley in the head, causing a fatal wound. Patrolman Buckley's partner shot and killed the suspect as the man reloaded his weapon.
Patrolman Buckley had served with the agency for only 8 months. He was survived by his expectant wife, parents, and grandmother. |
