Deputy Brown was shot and killed by a man he had arrested several months earlier. He was in a restaurant eating when the man saw him and entered the establishment. The suspect ordered a hot cup of coffee and then approached Deputy Brown. He threw the coffee into Deputy Brown's face, and as Deputy Brown stood up, he shot him twice. The suspect then fled to a nearby school and committed suicide.

Deputy Brown was survived by his wife, two sons, parents, and four sisters..

As I read the previous reflections, my thoughts turned to that dreadful day that was a turing point in not only my life but in the life of two young boys, Leroy and my sons, Jeff and Todd.It was a horrrendous day one that I have not talked about to many. Today as we are entering another year, the pain and loss is as deep as it was on the day that Leroy was taken from us. The pain flickers as the blue light does on Todds facebook page. There are many things I could say about Leroy but the main things things that come to mind is how he loved his sons. He loved them above everything and everyone. But one day he told me he felt he had a calling and that was to be a law enforcement officer. Against all my reasons why he should not ...the calling was stronger than my pleadings. The day he was sworn in was one of his happiest days and while his time was short he loved every moment of it. Today, this many years later, I know in my heart that he watches over his sons and me.
Although, he is not here to see them as adults he has walked every step with them. Oh, how he would of played and spoiled his grandsons. He is very proud of them also and watches over them as they grow and walk their individual paths of their lives. I end this with a special thoughts of all the families that have lost loved ones that gave there life to be of service to serve and protect....
