Warden Brown and Warden Mertley Johnston were shot and killed while investigating illegal beaver trapping on Loon Stream near the Canadian border.

After shooting both wardens, the Canadian suspect placed their bodies under the ice on the stream. Their bodies weren't located until May 22, 1923.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 87th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

How your family must have suffered when you were missing. I am glad your body was found so that your family could properly lay you to rest.
