Night Officer Edward Stever was shot and killed near the intersection of Buffalo Street and Main Street while attempting to question a suspicious person at approximately 1:30 am.

He had followed the man for several blocks. When he asked the man to stop the subject suddenly turned and shot him twice in the chest. Officer Stever was taken to a local doctor where he succumbed to his wounds several hours later.

The subject fled the scene.
