Investigator Brown was killed in an automobile accident on Route 86 while transporting a prisoner from North Carolina back to Henry County. The suspect was wanted in connection with the burglary of a local florist and was located in North Carolina.

The two were only a few miles from the Virginia border when the unmarked department vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and struck a tractor trailer head-on. Investigator Brown and the suspect were both killed. The driver of the tractor trailer stated that he observed the two occupants of the vehicle struggling as the car veered into his lane of traffic.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 28th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.
