Deputy Sheriff George Rogers and Deputy Sheriff Ulyss Baldwin were shot and killed while attempting to locate two brothers who had escaped from the Cleveland County Convict Farm.

The deputies, along with five other deputies, were searching for the escapees at one of the brother's home. As the deputies searched the home one brother shot at them multiple times, wounding three deputies. Deputy Baldwin and Deputy Rogers were both taken to a hospital in Pine Bluff where they died while in surgery.

A posse of several hundred men, including 200 Ku Klux Klan members, searched for both for several days. No further information is availble.
