James Appleby

Patrolman James Appleby died as the result of contracting rabies when he was bitten by a cat while on patrol in December 1927.

The cat had been following him as he made his rounds and followed him into a store. The cat then fell down at his feet. As he reached down to pick it up the cat bit him on hand, causing a wound. He developed hydrophobia as a result and died on April 2nd, 1928.

Patrolman Appleby was survived by his wife.
