This troop made an impression on me from the very first day I was assigned to South Patrol. I remember he was on the radio chasing after burglars one morning and it was only 9A. The guys on the shift called him "Macaroni." I remember teasing him at roll call a couple of times because I heard that he liked to order chiliquiles for breakfast. Later he was assigned to me as a detective and he still kept that reputation as a hustler. One night I was watching the cult film Billy Jack and I told him the next day that he was a splitting image of Tom Laughlin. He didn't who it was and I reminded him that he was a good troop with an excellent work ethic. I later recruited him to work for me for me in a security detail as I knew that this kid was dependable and a good worker. I was on RD during the Thanksgiving holiday when they told me that he died. This kid was special. I will never forget Ben.
