Detective Sergeant Joseph Bridgetts was shot and killed while investigating a stolen car case.

Detective Bridgetts, his partner and an insurance adjuster went to a location in Brooklyn to investigate. During the investigation, the suspect shot and killed Detective Bridgetts and wounded his partner.

Detective Bridgetts was assigned to the 93rd precinct (present day 84th Precinct) squad. He served with the New York City Police Department for 15 years.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 89th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
