Deputy Sheriff Jeff Watson was killed in an automobile crash while responding to an assistance call from another officer at approximately 8:45 pm.

He was traveling on Paul Maillard Road with his emergency lights activated when an oncoming vehicle attempted to make a left turn in front of him onto Post Drive. Deputy Watson, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, attempted to avoid a collision but swideswiped the vehicle and then struck another vehicle head-on.

The occupants of the other vehicles all suffered injuries.

Deputy Watson had served with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office for 12 years.

Every time I see a marked unit pass my house when it's your rotation, I still think that it's you stopping by. This last year has been a blur. I hate going in the roll call room. I see your photo on the wall, reminding me you're gone. When I check my SOD box, a plate covers your pigeon hole. The Unity Tour represented you well this year. I honestly get pissed off when others express their dissatisfaction about who can go on that. They don't get it Jeff. But you pushed is up those difficult hills. As I pedaled uphill, I had your photo on my aerobars and then the hill seemed easy. This profession is fortunate because you wore the uniform. I miss you man. Watch over us.
