Sergeant Kenneth Hayden succumbed to complications of an accidental gunshot wound sustained 15 years earlier while responding to a robbery in progress.

Sergeant Hayden had served with the Fort Wayne Police Department for 16 years. He was survived by his wife and four sons.

Wow. Your brother and I played high school baseball against each other. You, my brother, {a FWPD officer} played on a slow pitch softball team that won a City Championship. The following year I joined the FWPD. You were a traffic sergeant at the time. My third day on the street, 1983, you gave me your Traffic Crash pocket template with the leather pouch. I retired in January 2020 and that template was in my left breast pocket my whole career. I stll have it. You were good to me as a team mate and even better as a human being. I will never forget you.
