Walter H. "Doc" Mann

Deputy Sheriff Walter Mann was shot and killed on Kaskaskia Island on the Mississippi River as he and the sheriff attempted to arrest a man for shooting at a neighbor. As they arrived at the man's home he shot Deputy Mann through his glass front door killing him instantly. The sheriff apprehended the suspect later in the day.

On November 19th, 1928, the subject was convicted of Deputy Mann's murder and sentenced to life. He died in prison January 16th, 1935.

Deputy Mann was survived by his wife and four children.
