Arthur Gehard Herman

Deputy Sheriff Arthur Herman was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle while rounding a curve on Washington Avenue, between Flett Avenue and Wright Avenue, and crashed into a street car.

He was attempting to locate a prisoner who had just escaped from the Racine County Jail and was en route to the local electric line rail station when the crash occurred.

Deputy Herman had only served with the Racine County Sheriff's Office for approximately three months.3
