J. Robert Bennett

City Marshal Robert Bennett was shot and killed as he was pursuing a man he caught burglarizing the Lonoke post office. He was found shot to death near a railroad crossing two miles west of Lonoke. The suspect was apprehended in Texarkana the next day when he hopped off a freight train with a large quantity of stamps and a .38 caliber revolver.

The suspect was convicted of first degree murder and executed in the electric chair on February 8th, 1938.

City Marshal Bennett is buried in Lonake Cemetery, Lonake, Lonake County, Arkansas.
