Patrolman Hugh Shannon was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver as he directed traffic in front of a church. The impact threw him 125-feet, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.

Patrolman Shannon had served with the Lindenwold Police Department for 22 years. He was survived by his wife and 11 children.
